The continued work of my thesis involved designing an interactive display that informs viewers through the tactile learning experience of sifting through real, fast fashion garments. You find facts, statistics, and quotes from actual workers about the conditions of labor they endure. I also designed a takeaway card with more information, ways to help, and a book that expands upon my research, as well as other projects I completed during my senior year.
The Hidden Cost
For my senior thesis, I designed a 12" clock about the exploitative nature of the fast fashion industry in regards to its workers. 80% of these workers are young, Asian women from poor, rural backgrounds that are overworked, underpaid, abused and trapped by job insecurity. A phantom mark of blood, sweat and tears is left behind by the human hands that assemble the cheap clothing we see and wear every day.
