I studied hundreds of screen caps from various favorite films of mine (ones in which I felt accurately represented the genre as a whole) across 6 different genres. Then I extracted color swatches displaying a range in hue and value that allowed me to generate a 3 x 3 grid to represent a single frame.

My approach to collecting so many squares of color was to break each film down into a 3-act structure and sample color from two frames that take place during the beginning, middle and end of the film (6 in total) in order to fairly represent how hue and value might change over the course of a film's visual narrative.
Finally, compiling all of these grids together in order to ultimately answer the question: "what colors make up a film genre?"
After completing my poster series, I decided to build upon my visual system by contextualizing everything as promotional pieces for the annual Phoenix Film Festival and designed these tickets for the event.
